Doors and opening windows are among the most frequently used and highly loaded parts of a facade. Selecting them by appearance alone can lead to difficult operation, leakage, premature hardware wear, or poor accessibility.
Define the operation
Start with who will use the opening, how often, and under what wind or security conditions. Swing, sliding, tilt-and-turn, parallel-opening, automatic, and frameless systems each suit different dimensions, traffic levels, and user expectations.
Check the performance
Frame drainage, sill design, gaskets, thresholds, glass safety, air leakage, water resistance, acoustics, thermal breaks, and wind loads must be reviewed together. Larger leaves place greater demands on hinges, rollers, closers, and anchors.
Plan for real use
Coordinate clear opening widths, accessible thresholds, door swings, handles, access control, cleaning, replacement, and maintenance routes. A well-specified opening should remain intuitive and reliable long after handover.
